Take a Curated Tour of Galileo's Work

Galileo's contributions to the progressive development of the telescope, as well as his revolutionary work to create modern scientific methods, make him one of the greatest luminaries in scientific history. The Franklin Institute was selected as the world exclusive host for Galileo, the Medici and the Age of Astronomy exhibition. This exhibit showcased Galileo's accomplishments, his relationship to the ruling Medici family, his discoveries, and his overall impact on astronomy, physics, and math.

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) approached Bluecadet to create a site that would both educate and entice visitors to attend to this landmark show. While the show featured many rare and visually engaging artifacts, very little besides these images was available for use on the site. Accordingly, we worked in close collaboration with the Franklin Institute to create and curate content for the site. We researched the subject and organized a full day audio recording session wherein the Franklin Institute's chief astronomer Derrik Pitts described each artifact in detail. From these audio sessions, we created a rich Flash interactive that allowed users to explore the artifacts and hear associated audio. We also culled site copy to inform the remainder of the site. In the end we produced a site that effectively educated, entertained and enticed the visitor contributing to a blockbuster show.
