The Allure of the Duckboat in Mobile
Truth from the outset, I've never completely understood the allure of the duck boat. To orient the uninitiated, the duck boat is a giant military-style transport vehicle built to drive on land or sea. Built in 1942, this giant waterproof jeep was apparently quite a hit with General Patton and Eisenhower. Having outgrown its military usefulness, and in the proud tradition of the Hummer, the duck boat was brought stateside for civilian use.
